Prominent ear surgery is usually carried out under a local anaesthetic. Small incisions are carefully placed behind the ear, allowing the cartilage to be reshaped and the ear set in a more natural position. Stitches are then used to secure the new shape. Because the incisions are behind the ear, scarring is minimal and discreet.

Otoplasty is performed under anaesthetic, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. Mild discomfort or tightness may be experienced afterwards but is usually well managed with simple pain relief.
Most patients are able to return to work within 1–2 weeks. A supportive headband is usually recommended in the early stages, particularly at night, to protect the ears as they heal.
Incisions are placed carefully behind the ears, meaning any scarring is hidden and fades over time until it becomes barely noticeable.
