What is Photo-fabulous?
Photofabulous Skin Rejuvenation combines RESURFX laser and Intense Pulse Light to reduce the signs of ageing. The laser treatment stimulates collagen production and rejuvenates the skin, while the IPL targets specific imperfections, leaving you with smoother, healthier and more youthful-looking skin.
ResurFX laser delivers light as tiny dots to your skin to boost your natural collagen production, giving you tighter and smoother skin. The laser penetrates down to the deeper layers of your skin without damaging the skin’s surface.
ResuFX laser is a non-ablative skin resurfacing system which means it does not destroy or ablate your skin cells. As a result, you don’t have to heal for 5-10 days like a CO2 treatment. ResurFX is also a fractional laser, meaning it only affects a fraction of your skin, leaving the rest to heal quickly.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is actually not a laser – it uses a series of broad spectrum of light pulses (unlike a laser) to target melanin (pigment) and haemoglobin within your skin. When the melanin and haemoglobin absorb this light, they heat up, destroying the cells around them. For this reason, IPL is an ideal treatment for small blood vessel conditions and pigmentation.

Skin Rejuvenation
As we age, our skin naturally loses collagen, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. Photo-fabulous promotes collagen production, improving skin tone, texture and elasticity. It effectively reduces the appearance of wrinkles, restoring a more youthful complexion.
Skin Pigmentaion
Hyperpigmentation such as sun spots, age spots and melasma occur as we age. Photofabulous targets these areas by breaking down the excess melanin. The treatment helps to even out skin tone and reduce pigmentation.
Vascular Lesions
Thread veins, spider veins, broken facial veins and rosacea can all be troublesome when you are trying to achieve an even complexion. The Intense Pulse Light targets the haemaglobin within your skin. When the haemaglobin absorbs the light, they heat up, and the cells around them are destroyed, resulting in more evenly toned skin.
Acne Scar Reduction
Acne scars can leave lasting marks and can affect your skin’s smoothness and texture. With Photo-Fabulous we can minimise the visibility of acne scars by stimulating collagen and promote the growth of new, healthier skin cells. It is also effective at treating scars from trauma and surgical procedures.

FAQ's
Photo-fabulous is an excellent treatment option if you are looking for a subtle brightening of your skin and an improvement of your skin tone and texture, with minimum downtime.
Photo-Fabulous is contraindicated for patients with any of the following.
- Concurrent cancer or history of skin cancer
- Active infection or bacterial diseases.
- Avoid irritant topical agents (Retinol) for 3-4 days prior to treatment.
- Avoid tanning/excessive sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Avoid applying makeup on the day of treatment.
We generally ask you to come to the clinic at least one hour before your treatment slot to apply the topical anaesthetic. Just before the treatment, we thoroughly cleanse your face and then start the treatment. You may feel a heated, tingling sensation whilst the laser is working.
Unlike other fractional devices, ResurFX requires only one pass over the skin to produce effective results, reducing the overall treatment time and discomfort. In most cases, the procedure takes about 15-30 minutes.
Most IPL procedures can be carried out without the need for any anaesthetic. Although each pulse can feel like an elastic band being snapped against the skin, the laser tip is cooled to 4ºC, and this helps reduce the discomfort. With this cooling, most patients tolerate this procedure very well. In awkward areas such as the side of the nose, we will need to apply firm pressure, and this may cause mild discomfort.
In general, most people tolerate the treatment very well. ResurFX is less painful than other laser resurfacing treatments due to the state-of-the-art CoolScan scanner, which protects the skin from heat accumulation and overheating. With the numbing cream, most people only feel a mild stinging and tingling sensation with the treatment.
When the IPL pulse is triggered, it may cause some discomfort. Some describe this as stinging, whilst others liken it to a rubber band snap. You may have a burning sensation for up to an hour after treatment..
The downtime after Photo-fabulous is minimal although, you may get some redness and swelling immediately after your treatment. This redness can last for up to 7 days. Your skin may also feel a little rough in texture a day or two after treatment. This persists until the skin flakes off, revealing younger, smoother skin underneath. We do NOT recommend exfoliation of skin during this time.
Pigmented lesions may appear darker after the treatment, but soon they flake off to reveal clear, even skin.
You may experience some itchiness or skin sensitivity after the treatment. Both are indications of the natural renewal process and dissipate a few days after treatment.
Many typical skin care products can be used immediately after treatment – our staff will talk to you about any products to avoid following treatment. Most people apply their makeup and return to work the day after their treatment.
Photo-fabulous requires a series of 3 or more treatments, repeated at 4–5-week intervals to produce a more radiant, youthful-looking skin. Most people continue to see improvements for up to six months after their treatment.
